You know, I still remember when I first read the news of a newborn cub having been born to Mei Xiang and Tian Tian of the National Zoo in 2005. For years the NZ had worked toward the goal of having a panda cub with Ling Ling and Hsing Hsing. There were five cubs born at the NZ during this time but none survived. So,this was cause for celebration!
Thanks to the wonder of live web cams, I along with many others watched the tiny, pink baby being held ever so closely in Mei's arms for days on end.
Tai's bright eyes and ever-going energy to explore the new world has been a joy to watch over the years. I've watched him climb the highest tree tops, enjoyed his on-going antics for attention with his mom, Mei, who has taught him everything he needs to know about being a panda. I have gone up to visit him in person twice now, but will miss seeing him this year.
With his weight at 181 lbs. now, you really can't call him a cub any longer. He is a big, beautiful bear
but you can still find him romping around, climbing trees, and other fun things as Tai still loves to play as much as he ever did.
Happy Birthday, dear Tai Shan. Thank You for all of the joy you have brought me and the many new friends I have made along the way because of you.
You are the greatest SuperPanna ever!
