Atlanta Zoo, Georgia, Lun Lun, female
Lun Lun (female) was born at the Chengdu Research Base, Chengdu, China. Her mother is Bing Bing and her father is Lin Nan.
She is very shy in nature and has beautiful flully cheeks, which the Chinese consider a special trait in pandas. She and her partner, Yang Yang have lived together since they were both 1 year old at the Chengdu Base. They had been part of a research project on panda behavioral development at Chengdu, with Dr. Rebecca Snyder.
When Zoo Atlanta made their arrangement with the Chinese for a pair of pandas, they chose Lun and Yang, so that Dr. Rebecca Snyder, a graduate of Georgia Tech University could continue her research with them here in the US.
Lun Lun has had two cubs now at Zoo Atlanta. Her first cub a female was born on September 6, 2006. She is named Mei Lan 'Atlanta Beauty'. Lun's second cub a male, was born on August 30, 2008. He is named Xi Lan. Lun and her cub Xi can be seen together at the zoo.
Both cubs were born by artificial insemination using Yang's sperm.
