These two pandas came to the Schonbrunn Zoo, Vienna, Austria from the Wolong Base of Giant Panda Breeding in March of 2003. Only Six zoological gardens are participating in the captive breeding and research projects and thereby support the activities of the China Wildlife Conservation Association.
When they first arrived in Vienna, the two bears created such pandamonium, one national radio station initiated a drive to have them rechristened Sissi and Franzl. The names refer to emperor Franz Joseph and his famous wife, Elisabeth. They were welcomed in person by the Chancellor and a special panda stamp was printed.
Both pandas were born in 2000 and really seem to get along very well. In 2007, they mated naturally and Yang Yang bore them a young male cub on August 23, 2007. Zoo Vienna held a public "Naming the Panda Baby" contest online with four names for the public to choose from and the "Fu Long", Happy Dragon was the unanimous winner.
